Perioperative and Critical Care Center for Outcomes Research & Evaluation(PC-CORE)

The Perioperative and Critical Care Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (PC-CORE) at Boston Children’s Hospital provides a wide range of expertise in outcomes research. The main focus of the Center is to engage in research that utilizes the principles of data science and implementation science to improve patient-centered outcomes in children requiring perioperative and critical care.

The Center brings together interdisciplinary clinical expertise, biostatistics, epidemiology, systems engineering, predictive analytics, data management, database development, and decision support to assess healthcare quality and evaluate clinical effectiveness of emerging therapies and care pathways. We provide internal and external benchmarking through single center quality improvement platform as well as international multicenter collaborative efforts to examine trends in key outcome metrics. We collaborate with patients, caregivers, scientists, healthcare system leaders and external partners to come up with novel, data driven solutions to problems across the healthcare enterprise and conduct clinically integrated research to utilize existing data resources and state-of-the-art computational methods to cultivate a learning healthcare system.

Our central motivation is to see that each patient receives the maximum benefit from the existing body of evidence, analyses of available data streams, and applied research.
